CHAND BAORI, THE WORLD'S LARGEST ANCIENT WELL


Chand Baori in Rajasthan Abhaneri east village is one of the landmarks of India, a well-walled stone stairs. Well it is the oldest in Rajasthan and is considered as the largest in the world.
 


















 









Chand Baori look completely invisible as well. With the structure of a perfect square and 13 steps, along the wall has a double staircase that form a triangle. A total of 3,500 stairs arranged in a symmetry to the bottom of a well 20 meters deep.

Ancient well was built in the 8th century and 9th by Raja Chanda from Nikumbha Dynasty. Water sources used by people around for centuries before modern drainage. Although no longer used, building more than 1,000 years old and is still sturdy. Wells adjacent to a temple to another location tourist exploration.

 







 











Wall of the well, called bawdi or Baori, having steps of the construction, according to residents to allow more people who can reach base in order to get water.

Even so, no one knows for sure the reasons behind the complexity of the geometric form. Some people believe it is used as a form of water harvesting sites, because this region is known as a dry place. Mouth large wells used as a rain water collection.

 










 









In addition to a water source, Chand Baori is also a gathering place for residents to cool off during the summer. The temperature at the bottom of wells 5-6 degrees cooler than the rest of it.

On one side of which has a pavilion, visitors can see the statues with various carvings. Here too there is a special room reserved for the King and Queen to witness the performing arts.

The well is now run by the Archaeological Survey of India.
